The Pride of the Yankees (1942)

A classic movie about a classic American hero, the great baseball player Lou Gehrig, aka the Iron Horse (played by Gary Cooper). From childhood to a later glory on the diamond surpassed only by Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig played in 2,130 consecutive games, until the onset of the degenerative neuro-muscular disease that bears his name forced him to quit. His famous "Luckiest Man" farewell speech, given at Yankee Stadium in 1939, is one of the most moving scenes in cinema.

The cast includes: Gary Cooper, Teresa Wright, Walter Brennan, and Babe Ruth.

Directed by: Sam Wood.
