(Au Revoir Les Enfants) Based on a true event that happened to Louis Malle himself, during his stay as a 12 year old at Catholic boarding school during the German occupation. This autobiographical film tells a story of a homesick, friendless 12 year old, Julien, who becomes intrigued with a new classmate, Jean Bonnet, who seems different. Though Julien is hostile at first, they slowly become friends through sharing mutual interests and experiences. In the process of developing his first friendship, Julien discovers that his new friend has a dangerous secret to hide, that if found out by the Gestapo, could cause havoc to all concerned, not to mention death for some. The cast includes: Gaspard Manesse, Raphael Fejto, Francine Racette, Stanislas Carre De Malberg, Francois Berleand, Francois Negret, Philippe Morier-Genoud, and Peter Fitz. "Goodbye, Children" won 7 Cesars, including Best Picture. It also won a Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival. The film was also Oscar nominated for Best Screenplay and Best Foreign Language Film.
