DAS BOOT (1981)

This gritty, realistic WW2 story, follows the activities of a German U Boat, commissioned to hunt and sink English ships during their ill-fated Battle of the Atlantic, told from a German point of view. Against impossible situations, they find ways to remain professional soldiers, despite their own personal distaste of or struggles with their government's ideology.

The cast includes: Jurgen Prochnow, Herbert Gronemeyer, Klaus Wennemann, Hubertus Bengsch, Martin Semmelrogge, Bernd Tauber, Eruin Leder, Martin May, Heinz Hoenig, Uwe Ochsenknecht, Otto Sander, and Gunter Lamprecht.

Written by: Wolfgang Peterson and Dean Riesne, based on the novel by Lothar G. Buchheim.
