"APOLLO 13" (1995)

Based on the real-life space expedition of 1970, the film follows the precarious 13th Apollo moon-bound mission.  When astronauts Lovell, Haise, and Swigert are moved up to the 13th mission they become part of one of the biggest projects in NASA history: the third lunar-landing attempt.  Already having achieved their lunar-landing goal, Apollo 13 gathers little press until the trip begins to go horribly awry, leaving the nation watching in suspense as four astronauts try and navigate their way safely back to earth, against all odds.

The high octane cast includes Tom Hanks, Ed Harris, Kevin Bacon, Gary Sinise, Bill Paxton, Kathleen Quinlan, Joe Spano, and Marc McClure.

APOLLO 13 was nominated for the Best Picture award.
